It seems it’s going to be dirty politics as usual throughout this campaign. Just once I would like to see an election season where the voters were treated like intelligent human beings and everyone stuck just to the facts. Can you imagine how nice it would be to choose a candidate based on their position on things important to you, instead of being forced to watch all the negativity that comes from these supposedly upstanding men and women? No wonder it’s so hard to find anyone decent to run for office, they are leaving themselves wide open to everything they did since elementary school. Their families are scrutinized, their children are exposed to mean spirited comments, and half truths become gospel in the media. In my opinion the media is greatly responsible for this obscene spectacle showing their greed by even running these obviously negative ads filled with half truths and innuendo. If candidates were only allowed to obtain donations from their constituents, ( only the people that are directly affected by the candidacy should be allowed to have a voice in any election.) The millions spent on State and local races by the national political parties and the political action groups would disappear, hence the candidates would find it financially expedient to convince their constituents on their merits, not waste crucial campaign money on the negatives of their opponents.
You can bet the media would oppose such conditions as they would lose millions in easy campaign revenue. I honestly believe that this is the only campaign reform that will ever work effectively. Political Pac’s are no different than the lobbyists who taint our political system with special favors. This would force the voters to pay attention to the local candidates and their positions, plus it would allow for a real opportunity to bring new blood into the political arena.
There will always be political commentators with diverse opinions to raise questions regarding candidates and even they should be held liable for misinformation and lies. Call me naïve, but just once in my lifetime would I appreciate the opportunity to enjoy clarity and truthfulness in politics and have the opportunity to choose a candidate by what they stand for, not be forced to pick the lesser of two evils.
